Do-it-Yourself Home Security
We’re always here for you at Advanced Lock and Security, but did you know that there is some DIY home security that can help protect your family and valuables? We offer a variety of home security systems that you can install yourself. These DIY household security systems range in price, but don’t require a subscription to a monitoring service. Modern DIY home security uses the latest technology, and typically involves wireless components. You’ll also find that most of these systems connect to smartphones and computers.
What’s the Difference Between DIY and Professional Home Security Systems?
The biggest difference is that most professional systems involve round-the-clock monitoring by staffed centers. While this may cost a bit more, there are benefits to having a person respond to any issue from increased levels of carbon monoxide to break-ins and more. You can save a bit by going with a DIY system, and these operate largely in the same way. They come with sensors for doors and windows that typically connect wirelessly to a central hub that can notify you if access points are opened. Just like with professional systems, you have the option to add things like cameras and other more advanced sensors.
Install Motion Lights
There are a variety of motion lights on the market, and they are relatively easy to install where a light fixture already exists. If you’re somewhat familiar with basic home wiring, this should be a quick and easy project. Call an expert if you’re not certain. Criminals prefer to stick to dark areas where they are less likely to be observed, and motion-activated exterior light can quickly make your property uninteresting to those who aren’t invited. Also, try to consider things like your neighbor’s bedroom window when installing a bright motion light. You want to light up dark areas around your home, but you don’t want a tired and grumpy neighbor knocking on your door.
Consider Sharing Your Home with Man’s Best Friend
Having a dog at your house, be it large or small, can be a huge step towards protecting your home. With their companionship comes a protective nature and ears that can best ours every time. The mere presence of a dog will often deter thieves, and if not, the barking will help alert others that something is wrong. While dogs are great, it is again important to be mindful of the neighbors. For those who may be allergic or otherwise unable to accommodate a dog, consider sound alarms designed to mimic the bark of a dog.
