If you’ve been avoiding getting a home security system because you think it won’t work, it’ll set off too many false alarms, it’s cumbersome to turn on and off, or something of the like, chances are you haven’t seen a more modern system. Home security has not only become more advanced, but it’s become more affordable. Advanced Lock & Security has been keeping up with the technology that’s changing home security, and it’s pretty impressive. The following are five ways technology has changed home security in recent years, and what it means for you.
Wireless security. Pretty much every home these days has wireless internet. Dial up is just silly, and pretty much unavailable, now. The same is true for modern security. The majority of homes now have wireless security systems, meaning a burglar can’t just cut a wire and render it useless. This also allows the system to be controlled by some pretty high-tech stuff. More information on that below.
Recording cameras come with nearly every security system now. These cameras can be moved around your home to offer wide views of everything that’s happening. Often, when the alarm is triggered, these cameras will both record video and take pictures of whatever triggered the alarm, catching it or them in the act with hard evidence.
Automated locks are also becoming more common, and they’re really great. These locks can be controlled multiple ways, like from your phone, by a keypad, or both. They require codes for entry, so there’s no more giving your key to a friend and hoping no one copies it or leaving it under a rock where most burglars know to look.
Monitored fire and carbon monoxide detectors. Many homes have fire and CO detectors, but a recent study showed that less than half of them actually work. Thanks to modern technology, you can now have monitored fire and CO alarms installed. These monitored alarms connect you to fire and medical response, result in better response times, ensure the alarms are actually working and not faulty, and can be connected to information about your home such as who lives there, if you’ll need extra assistance in the event of an emergency, or even if there may be animals that need rescuing. This way, first responders can arrive with a better idea of what they need to do.
Apps and remote monitoring. This could be the coolest advancement in home security out of everything. Not only can you now download apps that let you monitor your home remotely, turn your system on and off, and check the cameras, but you can often connect the rest of your home systems through these apps as well. That means you could control climate, lights, or even music and entertainment right from your phone or other smart device. This makes home security more than just safe, now it’s also convenient and actually helps the flow of your daily life instead of hindering it.
