Security is Peace of Mind

?????????????Deep down in our brains there is a section called the Basal Ganglia, or the R complex, or the lizard brain, or even the old brain, that thinks about nothing but our survival. It’s where our fight or flight reflex is, a reflex that we don’t have to think about, rather we just do.

Security can give us the peace of mind we all crave. It helps us to sleep at night, even if we aren’t aware of it. We certainly hope it has never happened to you but people who have had their homes broken into claim to have lost their sense of security, that the one place they should feel most safe, their homes, no longer makes them feel that way.

We understand that it’s easy to think, “Oh, it will never happen to me.” But it does happen, on average there are 2,000,000 (that’s million), home break-ins reported each year in the U.S.  That’s a lot of peace of mind that has gone out the window. So, when things are taken, jewelry, art, China, and others, the thief has also taken something else, something even more valuable, your feelings of security.

Feeling insecure is an awful feeling, it can be very stressful and depressing, can cause you to lose sleep and become jumpy. Of course, the opposite is true; feeling secure can give you peace mind.

Back to the R complex that I mentioned earlier, remember, it’s the part of the brain, the true decision making part of the brain, which tells us to run or to stay put. While certain parts of our brains are used for different things, they are connected and thus work together to make certain choices, some consciously, others subconsciously. Having said that, the R complex takes cues from the amygdala, the emotional part of our brains, in order to help it make the right decision.

I know this post has gotten a bit heavy but if you keep following along I’m making the point that feelings of insecurity affect not only your decisions around the issue of safety, but other things as well. That’s why it’s so tough to compartmentalize emotions; they rule our lives, even if we think we’re being rational.

At Advanced Lock and Security, we are peace of mind. We will work with you to make sure that both your home and business is secure, to give you that peace of mind you crave. I don’t want to turn this into a promotional piece, rather I want it to be a resource for why security is important to not only protects your things, but also to protect you mental well-being.

Having said that, I do want to talk about a few services a security company can offer and since we happen to be a security company I will be bringing up a few of our services as a way to explain, over  as a way to sell.

Changing the Locks

Changing the locks is a great way to feel secure in your own home. If you just bought a home (vs having one built) it’s a good idea to get your locks rekeyed, it will bring peace of mind. If you’re a renter, talk to your landlord about changing the locks, even offer to pay to have it done, just make sure they get a copy of the new key. As a rule of thumb, if you don’t know the key history, it’s best to rekey.

High Security Keys for your Business

High security keys cannot be made on ordinary key-cutting machines, their locks are extremely difficult to pick and they use patented key-control systems to prevent just anyone from duplicating the keys. Only certain locksmiths, authorized by the lock maker are giving the special blanks, key codes and equipment required to cut the keys.

Another great aspect of high security locks is that they are shipped without pins, that way you can rest assured that no keys were made prior to yours being made, now that is peace of mind!

Double Sided Deadbolt

You’ve seen it before, probably in a movie, a burglar picks up a rock, knocks out the small window next to the door and then reaches in and opens the door. A double sided deadbolt eliminates that scenario.

Since we’re on the subject of security and peace of mind, do you have a child that likes to wander? One that likes to open the door and go outside without an adult, how about an elderly family member that needs to be looked after, a double sided deadbolt can bring you that peace in more ways than one.

There are other services that a competent security company can offer you, in fact, we happen to be one and you can find a list of our services here. If you would like an evaluation on how we can make your home or your business safer, just contact us here or dial the number at the top of this page.

Here’s to your R complex.
