How Can You Keep Your Building Secure as a Property Manager?
As a property manager, you have a big responsibility to protect your investment and the investments of others. We’d like to share some tips that we’ve learned from our own experience and from speaking with property managers in Pennsylvania, Delaware and South Jersey that can help you secure your properties and enhance your peace of mind. One of the simplest tips is also the most effective: Be sure that all of your doors can be secured. Studies show that roughly 33 percent of thieves enter through the front door of an establishment. Crimes of opportunity happen because of laziness, carelessness or even simple mistakes, but they can be prevented. You can make sure your doors can be secured by inspecting hinges, locks and frames to make sure that they’re damage free. In addition, hollow wooden doors can easily be defeated and any opening in a door, even a mail slot, presents an opportunity to assist in a break-in. Advanced Lock and Security can help assess the level of security that the doors at your property offer and present solutions if upgrading is necessary.
Along the same lines, the windows of your properties should be a central point of concern. Making windows hard to break is also an excellent deterrent to thieves. Bars are effective but, since they’re not always an option due to varying factors, upgrading to laminate or tempered glass can help.
Obvious solutions include installing a security system that’s tailored to the individual property, adding lighting or trimming back shrubs, hedges and trees if they can be used as cover for someone attempting to gain illegal entry. Advanced Lock and Security has years of experience helping property managers protect their assets and the assets of others and we would be delighted to help you do the same.
