The holiday season is beginning and that means trips to go on and get-togethers to get to. All the extra work can make you more vulnerable, either from carelessness or from the increased break-ins this time of year. Here at Advanced Lock & Security we find the things that you feel are important should be protected. As such, here are a list of things to help keep what’s important to you just that, protected.
When You’re Traveling
34% of Americans, during the holiday season, spend 1-3 nights away from home. What that means is your home is left vulnerable. Below you will find a few tips to keep your home safe during this busy time of year.
- Use a timer on indoor and outdoor lights. There are apps that work with your mobile phone to make this even easier.
- Ask a neighbor to keep an eye on your home while you’re away. Make sure that they report any suspicious activity, such as your home being watched.
- Install motion sensor lights in the darker parts of your property.
- Consider CCTV. It’s not for all residences but if you have a lot of valuables that you want protected, such as art or high end appliances, it might be a route you want to go. Contact us if you would like to discuss.
- In case of a break-in, lock up your valuables so that you know they are safe. At Advanced Lock and Security we install house safes.
- Build up of mail and newspapers is a dead giveaway that nobody is home. Make sure that you contact your local newspaper and post office to stop home delivery.
- Take a look at your deadbolts, is it time to upgrade? Remember, a would-be-thief always looks for the path of least resistance.
This was just a primer to get you thinking about how you can protect the important things this time of year. The holiday season is meant to be joyous without the stress of having to deal with a break-in. As always, the difference between locked and secure is Advanced!
