The Many Benefits of Monitored Home Fire Alarms

The Many Benefits of Monitored Home Fire AlarmsMost of us know that having a working fire alarm in your home is important. However, a surprising amount of homes either have no alarms, or the alarms that are installed don’t work. Shockingly, one study shows that less than half of the fire alarms installed in homes that experienced fires actually worked. Advanced Lock & Security wants to help keep you and your family safer, especially when it’s as easy as installing a monitored fire detector. Most homeowners don’t know these devices are available, but they can add a level of safety to your home that battery operated smoke detectors simply can’t. When it comes to home fire and carbon monoxide safety, few precautions are more effective and affordable than a monitored smoke detector. We’ve put together some information about the benefits of a monitored detector here, but let us know if you have any more questions or would like help upgrading to one and we’d be happy to talk with you.
One of the major benefits of a monitored fire alarm is that, much like your home alarm system, it automatically notifies the necessary emergency responders. When a standard battery operated smoke detector sounds, it’s then your responsibility to call the authorities, but a monitored alarm would automatically call them for you, resulting in earlier notification. Early notification is extremely important because it gives you time to get yourself and your loved ones out of the structure and allows emergency personnel extra time to respond and help potentially injured residents get to safety. These same benefits go with CO emergencies, as monitored fire alarms often also detect carbon monoxide, an odorless, invisible gas that’s just as deadly as a fire. Adding a monitored smoke detector is often quite affordable through home security systems, and having it installed by a professional ensures it’s installed correctly and is in proper working condition at all times.
A monitored fire alarm really does keep you much safer than a battery operated one. A monitored alarm is connected to a service that can keep information about your residence, such as whether an elderly or health impaired person lives there, and let emergency responders know that essential information. A monitoring service can also help you keep your home up to code, as they’ll be notified if any systems fail, if there is a wiring problem, or even if batteries die. Having the backing of a reliable, professionally monitored fire alarm and CO detector could mean the difference between everyone getting out in time or letting the unthinkable happen. For just a few extra dollars a month, you can have the peace of mind that you and your family will be safe no matter what.
Advanced Lock & Security has trained experts on hand to evaluate your smoke or CO detectors and let you know what you can do to be more protected. Whether you have an existing home security system that you can easily link a monitored fire alarm to, or you would like to get more information about how to better protect your home with a new system, we are available to help. Nothing compares to the backing of a monitored fire detector, so consider adding that extra level of affordable safety to your home and be confident in quick response times, guaranteed functionality, and emergency responders having the information they need to help you better.

That’s very interesting. I never knew that there was more than one type of fire alarm! A monitored alarm sounds great because you can constantly check up on the state of your home. My grandparents are living with us, right now, and it would be helpful if we had a system that could take that into account. I need to check if my current alarm has a carbon monoxide detector — I’m not sure if it does!

After reading the article, it seems like monitored smoke detectors can be extremely beneficial in a fire alarm system. The article mentions that it can even automatically notify emergency responders! That would be really helpful in case of an emergency. I’d consider having a fire alarm system installed so as to protect my family as best as possible.

I agree with you; it’s really surprising how many homes don’t have a working fire alarm! I was surprised when we moved in to this new home to find that there was no working fire alarm. I’m going to have to get on that as fast as possible by calling a fire alarm company to come install one. I don’t want to risk my family’s health in any way.
