Learn about the Wireless/Cellular Security options from Advanced Lock & Security

First came your stuff. Then came burglars wanting to take your stuff. After that, forward thinking people developed security systems to deter the burglars. As security systems have improved with technology, burglars have changed their tactics. For example, security systems that relied on wires had their wires cut, or bypassed. Burglars really want your stuff, and the easier you make it for them, the happier they are.

Then came the wireless systems.

In a wireless system, when a sensor detects an intrusion, it signals the main control panel. The sensors and the control panel aren’t connected by wires, so there isn’t anything for a burglar to cut. Instead, the alert travels over short-range radio frequency waves that won’t conflict with other wireless signals. With so many radio frequencies available to use, it’s difficult to prevent that alert from reaching the control panel. Wireless seems like the best system you can get, right?

Not so fast.

If the control panel doesn’t receive the clear code, it sounds the alarm inside the building and alerts the security company. For the alert to leave the building and reach the security company, it has to travel somehow. Short-range radio waves will not travel very far from your building. That means the system needs to use a hardline, like a physical phone line or an internet cable, to alert the security company. If you were a burglar, how would you circumvent that system? Right. You would cut the phone line and the cable line. Then you would only have to deal with the control panel in the building, to turn off the internal alarms. When an audible alarm shuts off, people in the area usually assume everything is okay and go about their business. If the signal can’t get out of the building, the burglar has time on his side and your stuff in his van faster than you would expect.

But technology marches on. Now we have wireless/cellular options.

With cellular monitoring from Advanced Lock & Security, you don’t need to worry about a cut landline leading to the loss of your stuff. The way it works is that the control panel operates like your cell phone. It has a cellular module built-in, so when the alarm goes off the panel instantly sends a signal to the monitoring station. We can also program the control panel to send text alerts to your smartphone to notify you of system activity as well. That will let you know if the alarm has been activated at all. If you know that nobody would be around to deactivate the control panel, you can let us know and we’ll alert the police.

History shows us that the struggle between burglars and security professionals isn’t over. But for now, a wireless/cellular system is the safest, most secure way to guard your stuff. There are even more advantages to these systems that we haven’t touched on in this post.
